Here at Candlekeep, Wednesday nights are Dungeons and Dragons Adventurers League Nights, a great opportunity for players and Dungeon Masters of all levels to come along and play 5th edition D&D. This guide serves as a quick primer for those who are familiar with Dungeons and Dragons, and want to understand the key differences that Adventurers League offers, but if you are a complete beginner then don’t fear, you can always drop into the store or send a message on our Facebook page, where we will be more than happy to guide you through your first steps.
Rules For Creating Characters
All characters participating in Adventure League content begin at level 1. A rule of “PHB+1” is in place, and this is a term you may see referenced often. When creating a character for Adventurers League, you are able to use the Player’s Handbook, plus one additional source book, such as Xanathar’s Guide To Everything. When using an additional source book, other options such as Variant Human Traits may become available. Valid source books can vary from season to season, so check the current Adventurers League Players Guide for more information.
Determing ability scores must be done with one of the following two methods
- Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8)
- Point Buy (See Variant : Customising Ability Scores, PHB page 13)
Character class and background determine your character’s starting gold and equipment as described in the PHB.
A schedule of all games will be posted in the store and on Facebook. As a player, if you would like to register for a game, simply drop us a message on the Candlekeep Facebook page, Discord, or in store. All sessions will be listed with an expected number of sessions required to complete the adventure, typically between 1 and 5. Please bear this in mind when selecting your sessions, and only register for sessions if you are confident you will be able to attend all of them. In the event you have to miss a session, please inform the store or your Dungeon Master as soon as possible.
